When an earthquake hits a community, some damages occur. Although, damage may be to human life, environment, social well-being, economy, or living conditions. Staying prepared, and on alert is key. The first response is to contact the emergency response services in Tampa. But a well-prepared reconstruction strategy after damage assessment is crucial to reconstruct the damaged earthquake community as quickly as possible.

Damage Assessment

The first step that takes place is to assess the damage caused. Damage assessment, means determining the losses and harm caused to the community due to natural, accidental or human disasters. An effective damage assessment is to formulate the action plan required to avoid any further crisis. It is seen in the past that the cost of disaster has multiplied due to the lack of proper strategy. But to avoid it, it is essential to consider the subjective dimensions while measuring the damages.

There is an interrelationship between diverse aspects of life. Post-disaster recovery relies on the management of multiple disaster consequences. For instance – the destruction of a house may cause the people living there to experience emotional trauma. Therefore, the damage evaluation framework should be participatory and involve the affected communities. This ensures that people are not merely the recipient of the policy decision. But, actively participate in the re-development of their lives.

Additionally, measure the damage concerning human life, housing, community infrastructure, environment, livelihood, health, and psycho-social impacts. It is essential to continuously evaluate, study, and rewrite the methodologies of damage assessment.

Disaster Recovery Stages

We know that the recovery of disasters involves several tasks. Some sequentially implemented and others simultaneously implemented. There is a 5-phase disaster recovery plan. That facilitates the development and execution of the whole program.

Disaster Assessment and Risk Analysis

In the disaster recovery plan, the team members responsible for finding, monitoring, and reporting the damage should be identified. The assessment usually includes tracing the problem and probability of further damage. It involves gathering critical information about the current situation while identifying the prime affected area. Another critical task to complete during this first step is to perform a thorough risk analysis.

Activation and Planning

This second phase includes a team that actively engages in the preparation and execution of a strategy for disaster recovery. List and detail all the procedures to follow and things to restore. Also, the allocation of resources and equipment is done while documenting every action taken. Moreover, set up the timelines and schedules of activities along with the operation and quality standards. Execution of the Disaster Recovery plan in the project execution, the recovery team eventually takes action. They start to carry out recovery activities in the manner outlined in the strategy. At the end of the recovery process, a review is necessary. Track the progress and ensure that the quality standards set are met after the important recovery activities are completed.

Integrating the Disaster Recovery Plan with the Project Plan

The recovery from disasters is not a sole project. Therefore, attempts are to incorporate the disaster plan with the entire project plan. In this process, the disaster recovery plan is also reviewed and verified. This integration ensures that there is the optimal usage of resources and concentration is on the project’s overall objective. Moreover, it helps to decide on the next action plan to be undertaken.

Reconstitution and Restoration

This reconstitution process begins after the implementation and testing of the recovery plan is over. It can continue even for a few weeks or even months. During this step, ensure that there are no remaining impacts or dangers left unresolved. The short-term plans of the process are to clear debris and construction building units, restore lifelines and facilities, and create safer and healthier livelihoods on a long-term basis. The restoration may even lead to upgradation in the previously installed technologies and systems.

The damage repair and restoration companies in Tampa ensure the formulation of a disaster recovery plan soon after the information is received. Disaster recovery seeks to re-establish ordinary community life. It is through the process of both pre-disaster and disaster-impact activities. The efficiency is easy to achieve in communities where a pre-impact preparation mechanism is present. It addresses critical recovery functions and provides hazard mitigation and insurance in the recovery plan.
