This special day was coined by Richard Ankli, the founder of You’re Welcomegiving Day also in 1977. He created the day in honor of his brother Ray who was born on 1 May. Over the years the day has been a symbol to celebrate the onset of summer and a mark of the end of winter. It shows that the new sowing season is here and there is something to be thankful for.
